In this guide:
There are several necessary items to consider when replacing the door seal on a clothes washer of this type. It should also be noted that when performing any repairs to a given appliance it will need to be unplugged.
1. It is very important to order the proper replacement seal for a given washer model. The model name and number needs to be used. One size does not fit all and all parts are not the same. The necessary information can be found in the washer manual, on the sticker attached to the back, or on any existing decals and plates on the front of the machine.
2. Depending on the model you might need a flat screwdriver or another small prying tool to change the seal. Some models will not require this.
3. Before actually removing the seal, take a close look at how the elements are held in place. On most Kenmore washer parts the reinforced rubber bands hold the seal in place. However, in a few of their models the seal will be held in place with a knob and cord. The band must be pried up with a small prying tool. The cord is loosened with the knob until the seal can come loose. Take note of the direction the seal faces as well. The seals are not all symmetrical unlike some of the other types of Kenmore washing machine parts. The new seal must be installed in the same direction as the old one.
4. Remove the seal once the bands or cord is loosened. This takes only a little bit of force if the restraints are loose enough.
5. Place the new seal within the opening surface a little at a time. Start at the bottom. Once it is entirely in place press it fully around the entire circumference of the opening.
6. Replace the bands and cords. If the machine uses bands; use the prying tool to return the band to its position over the lip of the seal. If it uses cords simply tighten them.
1. Use a Phillips screw driver to remove the screws which hold the control console on top of the cabinet shroud. These screws are located on each side of the front portion of the control panel.
2. Push the control panel back and allow it to settle into its service position.
3. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the rear mounting clips. These mounting clips are on the top rear corners of the machine. Press them in and pull them back to release them.
4. Press in on the plastic tab on the lid switch wiring harness to remove it from the electrical circuit.
5. open the lid of the washer and tilt the cabinet's rear toward yourself. Lift the cabinet so it will release from its bottom tabs. It is important to keep the lid open so that you can access the lid switch mounting screws.
6. Pull the wires away from their clips beneath the top panel then remove the connector from the cabinet.
7. Unscrew the switch from the inside of the washer then use a screw driver to pop the actuator free of the lid
Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws that mount the switch to the inside of the washer. Pull the lid switch away from the washer. Insert a screwdriver between the lid switch actuator and the lid. Turn the blade of the screwdriver to pop the actuator off of the lid.
8. Install the new actuator. Press it into position until it locks into place. Then screw in back into position.
9. Refasten all wiring appropriately.
10. Reinstall the cabinet and reposition the control panel properly after reattaching the actuator switches wire harness. Make certain all screws, clips and related Kenmore washer parts are replaced appropriately.
This is an incredibly simple task compared to some machines.
1. Locate and remove the screws holding the console to the cabinet. There are two of them on the front of the machine.
2. Flip the console back then disconnect the lid switch harness and remove the two gold clips you will find underneath it.
3. Tilt the cabinet forward and then up off of its base. There are tabs holding the cabinet in place and this motion should free it from them.
The lint filter is located beneath the inner basket of the washer. The stainless steel tub must be removed before these types of Kenmore washer parts can be checked.
It is always best to use appropriate Kenmore washing machine parts designed for a specific series. However, if the part number is the same then it is likely that the part is interchangeable. Very little changes between these series iterations.
1. The control panel for the Kenmore 90 Series washer has a cover on each side that will pop gently loose by lifting from the top.
2. Two screws will be revealed at a somewhat hidden angle in the corners. Remove these screws.
3. Lift the entire up from the front and it will swivel to the rear for easy access.
Here is a detailed step by step instruction on how to repair this Kenmore washer part:
1. Remove the cabinet from the base.
2. Remove the pump. This is accomplished by the following:
3. Remove the drive motor in the following manner:
4. Remove the motor couplings from the drive shaft and gear case shaft.
5. Place the new motor couplings on the shafts.
6. Position a new isolation coupling on the drive motor coupling. Do this by lining up the holes in the isolation with the coupling studs. Once this is accomplished simply push them on.
7. Return the pump, motor, and cabinet to their normal positions and function.
